A Shreveport Travel Guide: Chartering A Bus & More

Strawn’s Eat Shop

Let’s start you and your Shreveport charter bus passengers off with some good Louisiana cooking. If you think, as a Louisiana-owned company, we’re going to recommend just any run-of-the-mill breakfast joint, that’s an absolute no. We’re taking you to the best morning culinary experience that Shreveport has to offer. We’re talking about Strawn’s Eat Shop. Opened in 1944 by Buddy Gauthier and originally placed smack dab in the center of the corner of 70th and Youree Drive, it’s always been a place to fuel your day before hitting the road. What can one anticipate while dining? Well, don’t worry about getting up at the crack of dawn just to catch some breakfast; they serve it all day. However, if it’s grits and biscuits you’re after, you will have to arrive before 10 a.m. If you happen to be traveling during Christmas, you might luck out with their seasonal Rudolph Pancakes that creatively use jam as Rudolph’s red nose. Looking for pie for breakfast? You’re on vacation, treat yourself. Strawn’s Eat Shop is known for its delicious assortment of pies to choose from. This diner is built for southern comfort and is the perfect way to start your day.

Shreveport Water Works Museum

You might think of moisture in Louisiana considering its high humidity, or maybe the thought of water comes to mind because of the Mississippi, so what’s all this water talk for? To prepare you for the McNeill Street Water Treatment Plant that makes this entire museum possible. The treatment plant was built in 1887 for Shreveport’s waterworks system; its purpose was to provide water treatment and sewer collection services. The franchise later took off as Shreveport Water Works Company, and by the nineteenth century, most middle-class families had cisterns. Shreveport Water Works was completed by 1887. A few name changes, updates, and a change in ownership from privatization to the city, and that brings us to today. The museum showcases where all the magic happened over the years, and considering our basic need for water, it was a crucial innovation. If you and the group find yourselves tired of water-related things, check out their railroad museum. This Shreveport Water Works Museum is the place that will have you reminiscing every time you drink a glass of water.

Shreveport Municipal Auditorium

The Shreveport Municipal Auditorium is home to The Louisiana Hayride which fostered celebrities like Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Johnny Horton, and one of the most notable celebrities: Elvis Presley. Depending on your age, you might not be familiar with what the Louisiana Hayride was; it was a radio show turned TV show shot from 1948 to the 1960s, and it was all broadcast right in this auditorium. Although broadcasting no longer happens here, the magic lingers on. Shows are still a constant in the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium. The tours are perfect for all you music buffs; you can stand exactly where your beloved musician once performed and see the venue through the eyes of a performer. This spot is a timeless must.

Sci-Port Discovery Center

It’s not your average science center, it’s a discovery center! What can you discover at the Sci-Port Discovery Center? A lot when you go to the Gallery of Intrigue, where you and your Shreveport charter bus crew can solve a history-based adventure by looking through items in the gallery. For all you stargazers out there, there’s a planetarium where you can view live presentations and movies. One of the coolest activities is their NASA-verified Be The Astronaut exhibit where you can experience being in a space capsule, meeting a robot, going to the moon, and more! This place might be in the steaming hot South, but we still love a good snow theme, and we’d bet you and the crew would too at their Sno-Port exhibit. The Sci-Port Discovery Center has a lot to choose from, so prepare for a day of fun.

Twisted Root Burger

It’s lunchtime, people, and we know how hard it can be to choose a place to eat when your group needs to refuel pronto, which is why we found the perfect lunch spot for you. The Twisted Root Burger is accurately self-described as a funky music-themed bar and restaurant with a Dallas backbone. That’s all good and fun, but you’re probably wondering what’s in it for your tastebuds. Well, burgers of course, and lots of them. The Root Burger is known for its exotic meats; if you’re feeling brave enough, try some ostrich or even camel. Don’t worry; they have sides too AND delicious shakes for those with a sweet tooth. Get creative with a make-your-own burger or choose one from the menu; either way, you won’t regret it.
